Lake Wateree is calling! Those who know the area, know that Lake Wateree is a special place. You can no longer find a public lake that is as sparsely populated and serene as Lake Wateree. We owe that primarily to its location; Lake Wateree is a country lake with no major metropolitan areas at its doorstep.
Lake Wateree was created in 1920 with the completion of the hydroelectric dam by Duke Energy. Its the largest of the lower lakes that make up Duke Energy's Catawba River Hydro Project, with 242 miles of shoreline and covering 13,864 surface acres. If you are looking for a lake that is similar to Lake Normal, Lake Wylie, or Lake Murray, but with a slower pace and less congested feel, Lake Wateree is for you!
